Monica Paul, director of sports marketing for the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau, commended the team effort needed to secure the championships for the city of Dallas. “We are excited to host the 2012 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships here in Dallas as part of our sports festival, along with the anticipated 4,500 players that will compete in this event,” Paul said. “The festival involving multiple sports’ National Governing Bodies comes at an opportune time to get everybody into the 2012 Olympic Games spirit with the London Games fast approaching. Dallas has a history of hosting major volleyball events, from USAV events to the 2003 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship. We look forward to continue working with USA Volleyball to host future events.” Dallas has hosted several USA Volleyball national championship events, including the 1998 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships. The city recently hosted the 2011 USA Volleyball Open National Championships for adults as well as the organization’s annual meetings less than two months ago. Dallas has previously hosted the USA Volleyball Open National Championships in 1960, 1996 and 2002. Apr 9, 2011
DFW High Intensity Boys Volleyball Club - Tournament Results: 171 - 9th Club, 161 - 25th Open, 151 - 17th Open, 141 - 23rd Open   USA Volleyball has selected Austin to host its annual boys’ youth national championship event, the USA Junior Olympic Boys’ Volleyball Championships, in 2010. The event is expected to bring 400 teams and about 10,000 attendees to the city while generating about $11 million in visitor spending.   The event will take place from June 30 to July 7, 2010.   “These championships are a highly sought after event among our industry, so it is truly an honor for Austin to host this group,” said Matthew Payne, executive director of the Austin Sports Commission. “Not only are we excited to forge a new partnership with the event producers, but we’re also looking forward to showcasing the city’s outdoor amenities, athletic facilities - and even our music scene - to the athletes, fans and officials in attendance.”   The Austin Sports Commission, which has been working to secure the event for more than a year, said the championship’s producers picked Austin for its compact downtown, entertainment options and active community.   The city has a hosting history when it comes to volleyball events. In 1994 and in 2004 the USA Junior Olympic Boys’ Volleyball Championships came to Austin and the USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball Championship took place here in 1994. Most recently, USA Volleyball brought the 2007 USA Adult Open Volleyball Championships to the Austin Convention Center.   “The city of Austin, the venue, proximity of hotels to the competition and wide variety of eating establishments and entertainment makes this a win-win for USA Volleyball, the players and the local community,” said Mike Chandler, USA Volleyball’s managing director of events. “USA Volleyball has received high praise after every event it has hosted in Austin, and feels next year’s event will be no different.”
